3 Easy Ways to Hide Veggies in your Picky Eater’s Food

February 3, 2014

If you’re a Mommy like me that has a toddler with an aversion to her vegetables, I have a few tricks up my sleeve that may help you! When my daughter started on purees at 6 months old, she was an eager eater at meal times and would love the tubs and jars of food I put in front of her. After a few months though, I started to notice that she definitely had a preference for orange veggies and an aversion to green ones. When she was old enough to start on table foods, I came across the same problems. She loves her sweet potato fries, but if I give her peas, they are scattered all over the dining room floor! So I had to get sneaky, and I came across a few simple ways to hide those oh so healthy veggies in her everyday foods.

1. EGGS! What an easy platform for adding veggies without your little one knowing it. I have a recipe for eggs with carrots that I make for my daughter that I will post soon. She loves the recipe and has no idea that carrots are in the dish! A big win considering the protein and omega-3s in the eggs on top of all the nutrients in the carrots.

2. TUNA! I did a victory lap around my kitchen the day I realized my daughter is a huge tuna fan! A simple tuna salad is so easy to add veggies to. I usually put peas in it, and she is none the wiser! And another big win with all the nutrients in that dish as well.

3. MEATLOAF! This one is kind of obvious. You can stick just about any vegetable in a meatloaf and mask the flavor. I like to put onions and bell peppers in mine, but you can put anything from carrots to spinach to really anything in it and call it a win on the veggie scale. My daughter has been a meat lover since she started on table foods so I make meatloaf a lot in my house because I know she will eat it.

So here are the three ways that I use the most often. What ways do you hide those veggies? I am always on the lookout for new ways to feed my daughter healthy foods. I’d love to hear what other Mommys do. Please feel free to comment and follow us for upcoming blogs and recipes.
